About guitarist.top
Introduction
Welcome to guitarist.top — your dedicated resource for everything guitar. Founded with a deep passion for the instrument that has shaped modern music, we are a team of guitar enthusiasts, educators, and working musicians committed to helping players of all levels find their voice through six strings.
Whether you are picking up a guitar for the first time, refining your technique, or exploring new genres and gear, guitarist.top is here to guide you. We combine practical knowledge with genuine enthusiasm to create a space where guitarists can learn, connect, and be inspired. Our platform offers carefully curated lessons, gear reviews, artist interviews, and a thriving community of like-minded players.
Based in the heart of Wyoming, we bring a grounded, no-nonsense approach to guitar education. We believe that music is for everyone, and we strive to remove barriers — whether that means explaining complex theory in simple terms, recommending affordable gear that punches above its weight, or simply sharing the joy of a well-played chord progression.
Our Mission
At guitarist.top, our mission is clear: to empower every guitarist to reach their full potential. We aim to be the most trusted, accessible, and inspiring guitar platform on the web. This means delivering content that is accurate, actionable, and always rooted in real-world experience.
We achieve this mission through three core pillars:
- Education without ego. No gatekeeping, no elitism. We break down techniques, theory, and gear into clear, digestible lessons that respect your time and your unique learning style.
- Honest, unbiased reviews. We test gear thoroughly and share our real opinions — the good, the bad, and the surprising. Our readers trust us because we prioritize integrity over affiliate commissions.
- Community over competition. We foster a welcoming environment where guitarists can share their progress, ask questions, and support one another. Every player, from beginner to pro, has a seat at the table.
We also believe in giving back. A portion of our revenue supports music education programs in underserved communities across Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain region. Because we know that a guitar can change a life — and we want that opportunity to be available to everyone.
Our Team
guitarist.top is built by a small but passionate team of musicians, writers, and lifelong learners. Each of us brings a unique perspective and skill set, united by a shared love for the guitar and a commitment to serving our community.
James Hartley — Founder & Editor-in-Chief
James has been playing guitar for over 20 years, starting with a beat-up acoustic in his college dorm room. A former session musician and guitar teacher, he founded guitarist.top to create the resource he wished he'd had when he was starting out. James writes most of our gear reviews and advanced technique lessons. When he's not playing, he's restoring vintage amplifiers or hiking the trails near Rock Springs.
Maria Chen — Content Director & Lead Educator
Maria holds a degree in Music Education and has taught guitar to students of all ages for over a decade. She designs our curriculum, from beginner chord guides to jazz harmony deep dives. Maria is known for her patience and her ability to make complex concepts click. She also manages our YouTube channel, where she demonstrates techniques with clarity and warmth.
David Okonkwo — Gear Specialist & Reviewer
David is our resident tone chaser. With a background in electrical engineering and a collection of over 40 guitars, he brings technical precision to every review. He tests pedals, amps, and guitars rigorously, measuring specs and, more importantly, how they feel and sound in a real musical context. David also contributes articles on guitar maintenance and modification.
Sarah Mitchell — Community Manager & Writer
Sarah is the heart of our community. She moderates our forums, interviews emerging artists, and writes features on guitar culture and history. A gifted songwriter herself, Sarah understands the emotional connection players have with their instruments. She ensures that guitarist.top remains a supportive, inclusive space where every voice is heard.
Together, we bring decades of combined experience across genres including rock, blues, jazz, country, folk, and metal. We are students of the instrument as much as we are teachers — and we are always learning alongside you.
